Not even three seasons removed from back-to-back EHSL Championships, this year the New York Rangers, for most of the first half of the season have looked like anything BUT contenders for the Challenge Cup. Mired in a season long slump, this week, the Rangers have taken a step to looking like one of the teams to beat again in the Eastern Conference, rattling off convincing wins against the Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins. Many fans around the Big Apple (and fans in other markets) have clamoured for GM Rob Willis to pull the trigger on a deal to shake his roster up, however, GM Willis has appeared to stay the course and let his veteran roster figure it out on their own. In the midst of this recent winning streak, which has pulled the Rangers into a tie for 9th in the Eastern Conference, two points behind the 7th and 8th place Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, which would land the Rangers in a playoff spot for the first time since the season began. Yet one has to wonder what another three game losing streak would do to the fanbase of a franchise that has grown very accustomed to winning. Have the real New York Rangers finally arrived this season? Time will tell.
